Benny, a 22.4lb rabbit based in Oxon is hoping to break the world record for the World’s Largest Rabbit. According to the Telegraph Benny eats around £9 worth of fruit, vegetables, rabbit food and other ‘treats’ a day – a record amount for any pet surely?
Benny’s obvious route to fame would be the title of ‘World’s Heaviest Rabbit’ but the Guinness World Records no longer allow this title as it caused a number of owners to overfeed their bunnies in an attempt to win the title.
Benny however still has a chance of running for the title of world’s largest rabbit and it certainly seems like he has a very good opportunity of winning.
Benny – according to owners Martin and Sharon Heather – measures around 85cms, which is almost three feet in length. Benny’s sheer size certainly makes him a giant bunny, but can he actually break the record?
The previous record breaker was a continental giant doe known as Amy. Amy – who sadly died in May – measured 81.5cm, so – assuming the Heather’s measurements are accurate – Benny has a very good chance of becoming the World’s Largest Rabbit.
Benny has already gained quite a reputation, having built up a major following on Facebook. With more than two hundred supporters there are a large number of people hoping for Benny to break the record, but at the end of the day the judge’s decision will be final.
According to a spokesperson for the Guinness World Records: “The longest rabbit is currently under research as we have had a couple of contenders.”
So far it seems none of the other rabbit owners have released information about their precious bunnies, perhaps they are too scared after seeing Benny or perhaps they have the winning bunny and are just waiting for the right moment to reveal him to the world.
